Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been
awarded as the "Best City" for its improvement in Solid
Waste Management under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal
Mission for 2009-10. Union Minister, Pranab Mukherjee has presented
the award to the mayor of Hyderabad, Banda Karthika Reddy on 3rd
Dec during the national conference in New Delhi. A trophy and
cash award is given under this award.
GHMC took the project of Solid Waste Management, which includes
transportation to transfer stations, development of new stations,
operation and maintenance, transportation to designated disposal
facilities, development of four integrated waste management facilities
and reclamation and re-use of existing sites. Nearly 1,005 dust
bins and 2,384 workers are monitored by mobile technology. By
December, this will be extended to all the circles.

and Urban Development, Maheedhar Reddy, and officials of the department
called on the Chief Minister and showed him the awards bagged by
the department.
The Chief Minister advised them to concentrate on slum improvement
in urban areas by providing the required infrastructure like storm
water drains, drinking water supply and sanitation. Besides, he
wanted the department to speed up the works of providing 24x7
water supply in all the municipalities. |
