Parks in Hyderabad
Hyderabad city is
spread over 178 Sq. Kms. and has a population of 31.7 lakhs as
per 1991 census. Now, it is more than 50 lakhs. The area is divided
in to (3) divisions and (7) Circle's for easy convenience. The
city including its agglomeration has recorded the highest growth
rate i.e., about 70% in the last decade. There is also phenomenal
growth in industrialization in and around the city during the
last decade. All these factors have resulted into environmental
pollution of a high degree in the city area. It is the opinion
of the environmentalists that for combating the pollution, tree
plantation on a massive scale is the only solution. In this connection,
the tree population in Hyderabad city is alarmingly low, estimated
at 6 lakhs. Taking into consideration that a minimum of one tree
is required per family, Hyderabad City requires about 15 lakhs
trees.
The Municipal Corporation
of Hyderabad has planted about 4.5 lakhs plants during the last
3 years (by the end of August, 2000) and these plants have been
planted mostly in avenues, green belts, open spaces, grave yards,
water bodies, Govt. institutions etc. The total expenditure for
Rs.1,06,34,525/- has been made for the year 1999-2000 and for
Rs.33,51,851/- for the current year 2000-2001. However, unless
the environment in an around the residential colonies is improved
not much impact of plantation and its beneficial effects will
be felt. Keeping its financial resources in view, the Corporation
has called upon the colony welfare associations at large to come
forward to make their colonies green.
Urban Forestry Green Belt Program:
To meet with the large-scale requirements of the plantation, an
amount of Rs.25.00 lakhs was provided for 1999-2000. During 2000-01,
the same amount of Rs.25.00 is proposed and it is proposed to
plant 2,50,000 plants during the year.
Greening of Hyderabad:
In the annual plan 1999-2000
an amount of Rs.36.27 lakhs was provided for greening of Hyderabad
and 45,000 nos. plants with tree guards were planted. In 2000-01,
the same amount of Rs.36.27 lakhs is proposed with physical targets
of planting about 1,50,000 plants with tree guards. |
